Welcome to the Performance
Probiotics Christmas 2010 Newsletter!

Welcome to the Christmas edition of our Performance Probiotics Newsletter. Can you believe the festive season has come around so quickly? Performance would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their support throughout 2010 and we look forward to adding value to your business further in 2011. It has certainly been an extreme year with both droughts and floods making headlines. We wish those of you who have been harshly affected by these conditions well and that you receive positive outcomes in 2011. Please have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing you in 2011. (We will be at IDW in January).

This year we have decided to support Scleroderma Australia and Mission Australia. Both of these foundations provide exceptional support to those affected in our communities, while developing research for prevention and hopefully a cure. Please visit their websites to learn more:

Real Farmers. Real Results

Below are some of the quotes from
real farmers who have had real results
over the 2010 year:

"The thing we notice most with Healthy Herd Plus is the cows regain body condition quickly after low intake due to pasture shortage or heat stress"
Craig Bruem, Engsta Holdings 500 cows in NSW

"Out of about 800 cows we have had an improvement of 5% in our conception rate, which equates to a lot more calves. This works out to be about an extra 40 cows a year"
Shayne Lambert Gerber Farms, 800 cows in QLD

"The cows are milking really well, cycling like they haven't before and going back in calf"
Michael Hassett , 200 cows in NSW

"We have been using DFM for just over 6 months now and are amazed at its effects on overall Heard Health. The biggest difference we have witnessed is the fertility improvement in our cows; they are cycling harder, longer and more often. You can really feel the difference when A.I'ing them, they feel much better, clean and more defined" Darren Crawford, 800 cows in NSW

"I have a shed full of happy and healthy calves. I have been able to rear the first half of the calves almost incident free. The only calves to have any problems didn't have Performance Probiotics for the first 4 days of life and may have been out of unvaccinated cows"
Brett Cirillo, 300 cows in VIC

"We have been long time users of Performance Probiotics and would never dream of taking it out"
Rob McIntosh, 150 cows in NSW

"Been using Performance Healthy Herd for 4 months now and my cows have increase their appetite by 15%" Tom Young, 550 cows in NSW

"We have been using Performance Probiotics for 7 years and it gives us peace of mind. The ease and safety of the products means one less thing to worry about. We have been on Healthy Herd Hoof Boost for a few months over the wet winter and have seen a reduction in foot related problems"
Wayne Kuhne, Bushlea Farms, 350 cows in VIC

"There has definitely been an improvement in cow health and fertility rate, the hoof condition, coats and general health of cows are all much better. We have experienced a lower incidence of lameness, which can be attributed to better rumen health and high fertility also means a lower cull rate from infertile cows"
Shayne Lambert, Gerber Farms, 800 cows in QLD

Wet weakens grain quality

Despite the big wet, Australia will be reaping a bumper harvest this year. ABARES said that wheat production this crop year will rise to 26.8 million metric tons, up 6.8% from a September forecast and jumping 22% from a revised estimate for production in the last crop year ended March 31, 2010, of 21.9 million tons. However, Tom Puddy, head of marketing with cooperative CBH Grain, said that Eastern Australia's production, excluding Southern Australia, will likely be around 16 million-18 million tons, of which at least 8 million tons will be of feed grade, including 2 million-3 million tons of badly-damaged grain that may be totally abandoned.

Harvey Fresh and Fonterra to take up Challenge dairy supply

WA's Harvey Fresh and Fonterra have moved to take up extra milk, after farmers supplying the Challenge Dairy Co-operative had to find new purchasers for their product. Harvey Fresh moved quickly to offer contracts to a number of Challenge suppliers, and Fonterra has now advised that it will offer contracts to all remaining dairy farmers that have yet to sign new contracts with Harvey Fresh or National Foods

NZ declares drought zone

Agriculture Minister David Carter has declared all areas north of the Auckland Harbour bridge a medium-level drought zone, triggering relief measures for farmers, including funding for Rural Support Trusts, welfare support and farm management advice. "The situation in Northland is serious," Carter said. "Farmers are still recovering from last summer's drought and they're now facing it all over again, weeks earlier than expected."

Spot export price quotes

Powder prices were again quiet in this week's update of quotes from the USDA, with stability from southern hemisphere exporters in all products. EU numbers continue to correct butter prices.

'YOUR BACK YARD' THIS MONTH
FROM NEW SOUTH WALES

First of all welcome to new clients of Performance Herd Products and thank you to our loyal customers that keep us going. I hope that this newsletter finds you well and that the cows are milking well and are coping okay with the warmer weather.

Summer is here, and don't we know it, with severe flooding out west, and an over abundance of rain, haymaking has become tricky and many areas on the Macquarie, Lachlan and Murrumbidgee rivers have experienced some of the worst floods in years, hopefully the chaos will end soon and allow the cows and yourselves a well earned break.

IDW is just around the corner, be sure to stock up on show supplies through the Performance IDW specials.

Congratulations to all of our Performance Customer's in their results in the recent On-Farm Challenge's.

Performance Probiotics is now on You Tube, go to www.youtube.com and search for Performance Probiotics, here we have one of our nutritional experts explaining the different components of our herd products, and how they work in the digestive system of a lactating dairy cow. Most of all, I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your support over the past 12 months. I look forward to working with you to Build Healthy Cows

Around the Grounds - Area Reports

Gippsland

Seasons Greetings Gippslanders! Even though it doesn't really feel like December weather wise, the end of the year is finally here. I have had a great first year with Performance, with quite a few new farmers starting on our Herd Products, particularly Healthy Herd Hoof boost, as well as lots of great results on our calf products. One of the highlights for the year has been getting back out on farm, meeting everyone, seeing how each farm works and finding ways to have healthier cows and calves and make your job easier. Every farm is so unique that there is no blanket solution for anyone and I think that is something we pride ourselves on tailoring a program to suit your needs.

It was great to see so much silage being made this year with most farmers I have spoken to, able to get ample to get them through the year.

Thank you to everyone for their support throughout the year and I look forward to catching up soon in the new year, either at IDW or on farm pre calving.

Merry Christmas! May 2011 be the year of even healthier cows!

Northern Victoria

Hello to all of our Northern Vic Clients! What a year it has been- you have started out with Drought and ended in flood in some areas, testing everyone out as only nature can. However, the rain has been well received with good allocations and not having to irrigate as much as usual and pastures looking fantastic. Hopefully you were all able to get your crops off early enough to be able to utilize the good year. One of our big areas of interest at the moment is Heat stress and for Northern Vic, this is certainly an issue over January-February. If you haven't read our Heat stress article and would like a copy, let me know. As you would know, Heat stress not only affects your productivity, but the overall function of your cows and it has been proven that some the yeast and enzymes in DFM can assist in reducing these issues. We are gearing up for a big IDW again this year and look forward to catching up with you all over the week. Make sure you pop into our stand for a chat and refreshment! Thank you to everyone for their support throughout the year and I look forward to catching up soon in the new year, either at IDW or on farm pre calving. Merry Christmas! May 2011 be the year of even healthier cows!

West Districts Victoria and South Australia

Silage and Hay and lots of it across most of Western Victoria and South Australia. Harvest although a bit late in most parts is happening and bar the always expected weather interruptions on the whole it sounds like a successful year. Other than our year round calvers we have seen spring calving come to a close, for many a very challenging year with the pro-longed cool/wet conditions making life interesting for the young ones. Hopefully the warmer weather is now with us for a while now.

With the changes in feed that come with this time of year we are seeing some really interesting and beneficial results with our DFM herd products in managing transitions in feeding and diet. Also as the warmer weather approaches don't forget the advantages in feeding DFM to assist in managing heat stress.

After spending the last week in the lovely South Australia and seeing water in the Meningie Lakes for the first time, the coming month will be spent in and around Western Victoria, a bit of a break from the show and field day scene until we attack IDW in the new year.

I hope to catch up with you as many as possible over the next month, if I don't I wish you all the very best for a great month ahead and a very happy and healthy festive season. I will be enjoying my first Victorian Christmas and hopefully watching the Aussies sow up the Ashes Series.

A big thank you to all those who have supported our Movember campaign, much appreciated. I will be rid of my patchy growth next time we meet which will save me a few of the strange looks I've been getting.

Thanks for a great year and I look forward to a prosperous 2011 for all in the dairy industry.

Yours in Building Healthy Cows.
